In March, CPRE Cambridgeshire and Peterborough objected to Sunnica Ltd’s proposal to site a solar energy farm straddling East Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk (read our objection here). This will have a particular impact on the villages of Kennett, Chippenham, Snailwell, Fordham and Burwell. Broadly, our view is that good farm land should not be used for solar farms; it should be used to grow food or be returned to nature. There are thousands of acres of space on warehousing, car parks and other commercial buildings in this country which could readily be clad with solar panels and used to generate electricity.
