We are very concerned by both the water supply and sewage treatment situations in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Water Resources East has recently held a consultation on its Draft Regional Plan focusing on the former - water supply, while ignoring the latter – sewage treatment. Furthermore, these plans seem totally focussed on increasing water supply to Cambridgeshire for the sole purpose of enabling development. This at a time when large areas of our county are facing rapidly growing risks from flooding due to the effects of climate change and the resulting sea level rise, and when central government is seeking to reduce development in the South East and encourage it in other regions via the Levelling Up agenda.
We’ve written to WRE detailing these issues – you can read our letter here, and we’ve contacted Cambridgeshire and Peterborough MPs to express our concerns about the WRE Regional Plan. We’ll keep you updated with any developments.
