How We Work

There are over 40 CPRE branches throughout England, all but two (Durham and Northumberland) being independent charities.

Our Patron is King Charles III and many well-known people have taken on the role of President, including in recent years:

  • David Puttnam, Baron Puttnam 1985-1992
  • Jonathan Dimbleby 1992-1997
  • Prunella Scales 1997-2002
  • Sir Max Hastings 2002-2007
  • Bill Bryson 2007-2012
  • Andrew Motion 2012-2016
  • Emma Bridgewater CBE 2016-2022

Our current President is broadcaster, author and anthropologist Mary-Ann Ochota.

Each branch has a Board of Trustees, and a Chairman. Most have at least one paid staff member, but all rely heavily on volunteers for many of their activities.

CPRE has a national office in London and branches in every county. We are the branch for the county of Cambridgeshire and the Peterborough unitary authority.

Our officers and trustees are the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and members elected at the Annual General Meeting.

The committee meets every two months. The committee meetings are also attended by members who have a particular expertise.
